Hana – Wimbledon 84

I remember Hana (Mandlikova) at Wimbledon in 1984 saying things like "I'm a much better player than Chris and when [not if !] I beat her and play Martina in the final....." Chris was exceptionally fired-up for that match and it showed. Demolition job is the phrase that comes to mind. (6-1, 6-2)

I also remember Martina (Navratilova) saying (after she won her semifinal but before she knew her final opponent) that she'd be happy losing to Chris because she liked and respected her. The implication was quite clear that she didn't feel the same about Hana. In Hana's book she claimed that the two of them ganged up on her and that Chris wanted to humiliate her after the match as well as during it (by making her hang about for no reason before they left the court). I’d say she probably did mean to humiliate her but just to teach her a little humility!
