Evert/Fed Cup 87
…Glenn

I had the honour of seeing her play live when she played Fed Cup here in Vancouver B.C in 1987. I was waiting near the court and casually walked into a tented area, no one stopped me, the next thing I see at the end of the tent is the entrance to the court. As I turned around to leave, there she was walking with 3 people around her into the tent, I froze, she looked at me, me at her, and just carried on walking thru the tent. As she went by me I called her name hoping to take a picture, and as she turned and looked again I froze, just numb. She smiled and walked onto the court. I got to my seat close to court side and was, at the least, dazzled by her quickness, precision shot making, amazing groundies, brilliant backhand, and of course one of the most heart stealing smiles I have ever seen.

The Tennis world is not the same without her. I have most of her matches on tape, and I'm sorry to say 'give me a Chris & Martina match anyday over the Williams Sisters'. There are no Champions like that anymore. I just hope one of her sons is already taking lessons, of course he will have to have a two handed backhand!

Chris was a big part of my life and still is, I miss what she brought to Tennis, but feel blessed to have been around during her reign.

Cheers
Glenn
