My favorite thing about Chris was how she could comeback when she seemed beat into the ground. She beat Martina easy in the semis, so I thought she could give Graf a run. But she’s down 1-6 1-5….and then suddenly does one of those Chrissie comebacks. Graf did not lighten up or choke. Chris found a chink in the armour, and just kept hitting away. You tell me how she can spend an hour getting nowhere, and then all of a sudden…2-5 3-5 4-5 5-5! And then 6-5!!! How can she be winning? You thought she’d actually take this and make it one of the great wins ever. But Steffi was #1 by then and gathered herself and won in a tie-break. But, wow, you had to respect that someone could dig in like that. Chrissie never gave up, that’s for sure. That’s what I remember most about her.
